Hong Kong faces Manchester United at Hong Kong Stadium in a playoff friendly.

The Red Devils, under manager Ruben Amorim, failed to improve their footballing form, and this was reflected in their poor results: they finished just a couple of places above the relegation zone in the Premier League. At least, they closed with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

However, there’s a deep wound that will be difficult to heal in the squad: not only did they lose the Europa League final against Tottenham (0-1), but they also failed to secure their coveted spot in an international tournament (it could have been the Champions League).

And right now, before the summer break, the Portuguese coach is fine-tuning his strategy: departures and possible signings.

A 32-player United squad has travelled to Asia for their post-season games, with 25 outfield players taking to the pitch in Malaysia.

Noussair Mazraoui, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro have not made the trip with the team due to injury.

Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof also aren’t part of the squad as their contracts are expiring at the end of June, but Jonny Evans, whose deal is running out too, has travelled.

Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes both played the entire second half on Wednesday, despite rumours of an exit for both.
