Kosovo’s champion club, Drita, will make history tonight in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, as it reaches this stage of the biggest European club competition for the first time in history.
The team from Gjilan will face the Danish giant Copenhagen, in a challenge that is expected to be quite difficult for the Kosovar team.
The return match will take place in a week at the “Fadil Vokrri” stadium in Pristina, where Drita will have the support of its fans in an attempt to write a golden page in the history of Kosovar football.
Drita’s Champions League history is far from modest. The intellectuals became the first Kosovar club to play in the Champions League preliminaries in the 2018-19 season, winning the mini-tournament. However, their journey ended in the first qualifying round following defeat to Swedish side Malmo.
They featured again in the 2020-21 edition, but were knocked out in the preliminaries following defeat to Linfield in the final. Breaking away from the deadlock of previous campaigns, Zekirija Ramadani’s side have improved immensely in this edition.
