Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won four-straight world titles.

But this Formula One season has witnessed the Dutchman’s dominant grip on the sport slipping thanks to the rise of the McLarens with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

At least that’s what we thought. Back-to-back wins in Monza and Baku have left third-placed Verstappen 69 points behind championship leader Piastri and 44 points off Norris, who sits second.

“Seven races to go and it’s still 69 points… it’s a lot,” Verstappen told Sky Sports F1. “Basically, everything needs to go perfect from my side and then a bit of luck from their side I need as well. So it’s still very tough.”

Heat is always a factor in Singapore where drivers can lose up to three kilos. And F1’s governing body has already issued a first-ever “heat hazard” warning for this weekend’s race.

Verstappen may have amassed an impressive 67 GP wins in his career but he has never taken the chequered flag under the lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit. In fact, Singapore is the only one of the 24 tracks on this season’s schedule where Verstappen hasn’t won a race.
