After starting extremely poorly, Rangers recently replaced Russell Martin with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl. The Bears have been improved since his appointment but they still head into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat after extra-time in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals against Old Firm rivals Celtic at Hampden Park.
They now face a Roma side that appointed Gian Piero Gasperini over the summer but the Giallorossi haven’t quite hit his remarkably attacking straps just yet with a more cautious and low-scoring approach. That led to a slender 1-0 victory at San Siro against AC Milan at the weekend.
Roma will head to Glasgow knowing they should be good enough to avoid defeat against Rangers, albeit it may not be an entertaining clash for the neutral at Ibrox.
Rangers are bottom of the league phase, still waiting to earn their first point. They try to get off the mark on Thursday when hosting Roma who are 22nd in the table after three games. Read our match prediction below.
It’s been a troubled start to the new season for Rangers. They are 14 points off the top of the Scottish Premiership and at the weekend were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup. The Gers are on their second coach of the season with Danny Rohl now in charge at Ibrox.
Roma are also struggling in the Europa League. As you will read in the form section of this preview, the Serie A club began well but it’s been all downhill since then with a couple of defeats. They are in the play-off positions but three points adrift of the automatic qualifying places. This is the first of two trips to Scotland for the Italian club as they also have to play Celtic in this league phase.
