UFC 322 will bring star power to New York’s Madison Square Garden on November 15, delivering a historic championship doubleheader. In the main event, dominant lightweight champion Islam Makhachev moves up to 170 pounds for a much-anticipated challenge against welterweight titleholder Jack Della Maddalena. Maddalena, undefeated in 18 consecutive MMA bouts since May 28, 2016, will make his first UFC title debut defense against Makhachev on Saturday.
Makhachev last competed in January, submitting Renato Moicano to retain the lightweight title he first claimed in 2022. Having since vacated the belt to move up in weight, he enters his welterweight challenge on an extraordinary streak of 15 consecutive UFC victories. His only professional loss came on October 3, 2015, against Brazil’s Adriano Martins.
Meanwhile, China’s Zhang Weili – widely regarded as one of the greatest strawweights ever – steps up to face legendary flyweight Valentina Shevchenko in a long-awaited Super Fight for the 125-pound championship. Like Makhachev, Zhang will also move up in weight, aiming to solidify her legacy as an all-time great by capturing a second division title.
