Sunderland have lost just one of their last seven matches

The ambitious London side finished only in seventeenth place last season. However, they redeemed themselves by winning the Europa League. Now, with Frank at the helm, the English side played in the UEFA Super Cup (they squandered a two-goal lead and lost to PSG on penalties) and are fighting relatively successfully for a playoff spot in the Champions League. Things are going worse domestically. They lost to Newcastle in the League Cup last autumn. Their Premier League stats are about as tough as in 2024/2025. That made beating Crystal Palace even more important. And against Brentford, they managed a draw.

Le Bris, after arriving in England, immediately guided his new team out of the Championship, albeit only via the playoffs. Sunderland started winning right after promotion, so the squad celebrated Christmas in the European spots. Then they held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw.

The troubled giant is averaging 1.42 goals scored and 1.21 conceded per match. The Premier League newcomer plays pragmatic but successful football: 1.05 goals scored and 0.95 conceded on average.
