Manchester City won for the first time in four games

The club from St. James’ Park are the current holders of the 2025 League Cup. Last season, they also snatched fifth place in the Premier League from Aston Villa. Currently, their record is a mix of wins and losses, which has kept them no higher than mid-table. However, with three consecutive victories, they have at least climbed to seventh position. In the Champions League, they’ve already claimed three wins and ten points this time. Their cup clash with Bournemouth went to penalties, but Newcastle ultimately progressed.

The Manchester giants finished only third in the Premier League last season, having lost in other competitions, including the cup final. This season, under Guardiola, City have been challenging Arsenal at the top of the league. However, they faltered in January, failing to score against Sunderland, followed by draws with Chelsea and Brighton. In the cup, though, they took out their frustrations on Exeter with a double-digit victory.

Howe’s men started the tournament with a 4-1 rout of Brentford. They then defeated London-based Premier League sides Tottenham (2-0) and Fulham (2-1). Haaland and company began against lower-league opposition, overcoming Huddersfield (2-0) and Swansea (3-1). Only in December did they face Brentford, scoring two unanswered goals.
