Atletico have won twice in their last three matches

The top club from the capital reclaimed third place in La Liga last season but still failed to put up a real challenge to Real Madrid and Barcelona. It seems like nothing has changed this time, as evidenced by their immediate loss to Vinicius and company in the Super Cup.

In the Champions League match against Galatasaray, they only managed a 1-1 draw. A week earlier, in the cup, they beat Deportivo thanks to a goal from Griezmann. In La Liga, they’re battling Villarreal to avoid dropping to fourth. In the last round, they managed to beat Alaves, taking advantage of a competitor’s slip-up.

The team from the popular resort island showed a solid result in the spring, finishing tenth with 48 points. But now they’ve dropped back into a relegation battle in La Liga. They lost to a potential rival, Rayo Vallecano. However, they unexpectedly beat Athletic with a hat-trick from Muriqi. In December, they lost to Deportivo in the cup.

The Madrid team scores an average of 1.75 goals while conceding very few—this time, just 0.85 per match. Muriqi and company have almost opposite stats, scoring 1.2 goals per game and conceding 1.5.
