Man United have won just two of their last 10 league games, but Ipswich are in even worse form

Manchester United are aiming to end their three-game winless run in the Premier League when they host fellow strugglers Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

The reverse fixture in November saw Ruben Amorim take to the touchline for the first time as United head coach and the Portuguese could barely have imagined how traumatic his first three months in the dugout would turn out to be.

An underwhelming 2-2 draw with Everton at the weekend ensured that United remain 15th heading into Gameweek 27, with the Red Devils only 13 points above the relegation zone. Injuries have exacerbated Amorim’s struggles during recent matches but the excuses are running thin for the 40-year-old and his squad. They simply have to win on Wednesday night.

Ipswich are one of the three sides currently languishing in the drop zone and they have been cut five points adrift from safety. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ victory at Bournemouth on Saturday was teamed with a disappointing home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur for Kieran McKenna’s side, further reducing their chances of avoiding a return to the Championship.

Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro made their comebacks against Everton, with the former scoring the all-important equaliser. Both seemingly came through the match unscathed.

However, reports have suggested that Noussair Mazraoui could miss the clash with Ipswich after sustaining a knee injury at Goodison Park. No player has made more appearances for United since Amorim’s arrival.

He would join long-term absentees Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo on the sidelines, as well as the injured quintet of Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.

Toby Collyer could return to the squad on Wednesday after Amorim revealed he was close to full fitness before the Everton duel. Christian Eriksen was named on the bench against the Toffees after recovering from illness.

Ipswich were dealt two injury blows during their defeat to Spurs after Jens-Lys Cajuste and Kalvin Phillips were both withdrawn early due to fitness concerns. It remains to be seen if either can recover in time for the clash at Old Trafford.

Julio Enciso, Christian Walton, Chiedozie Ogbene and Wes Burns are others in the treatment room at present, but Conor Chaplin is closing in on a return from a knee injury having missed the entirety of 2025.
